 I don't think we had enough "stuff.
While Colleen and her family headed north to Maine, the Hayes' headed North to Cranberry Lake.  We weren't headed as far away (the GPS says it only takes 5 hours), it took a full 7 hours each way, we were still far enough to leave our "normal" life behind.

Lots of extra hands, lots of beer, lots of food, and lots of late night family fun made for a long overdue weekend of amazing-ness.  This was our first family vacation since Colin was born (other than short RI weekends), we we tried to enjoy every moment of crisp, clean, Adirondack air.

We packed our car LITERALLY to the brim an drove off into the sunset and when we came home, we were refreshed, and I was ready to tackle SUMMER!




There is NO service in Wanakena, and while we did have a bit of WIFI in one house.... who needs it when you have lake views, and snacks!  I did make sure to send Colleen some pictures while we were there.... but truly, there were no pressing matters to attend, no rooms to rearrange, no (typical) chores to complete, because........

 Here are the things that mattered:

1. Food.  So much amazing food!
2. Is there going to be enough bacon?  (10lbs should be enough right?)
3. Celebrating Engagements -- Lauren & Ian, Erin & Matt,  --- AND Travis & Katie's baby to be.
4. Colin climbed up the BIG rock!  (a MAJOR Hayes family tradition)
5. Cousin play time for the little kids (and for us big kids!)
6. Is that a leech?  (no really, is it?  if it is... will it make me skinny?)
7.  When can I wear my American Flag Bathing Suit?
8.  Do you think that guy in that boat also wearing an American Flag bathing suit wants to take a picture together?  (he didn't).
9. What time should we head out on the party boat?
     Jeff's 6 time - perfect boat docking should be noted for the record.... and please, correct me if my number is wrong!!
10. Is there beer in that cooler?
        it took me til #10 to get to beer???  I'm impressed, I substituted beer for water, a lot.
11. Colin & Olivia BOTH took Boat naps!
12. Taking one for the team (literally) when Hope told everyone I had to poop.
       this is funny to NO ONE else except me and her.... but I will laugh about it FOR-EVER.
13. Making Rice Crispie treats with Lauren!
14. Fireside chats.

Mom...The Potty Flipped Over

Just when you think you've got it all together.... Your son comes to tell you that there is poop on the floor.  So even though he's been potty trained for a nearly a year and ASKS for privacy when he goes, there are still mishaps.  Like, well this: He was such an easy kid to potty train...a few skittles here, a few there and BAM, bye bye diapers.  Yet, he has his quirks.  For instance, I am not sure why his own private potty ended up getting flipped over, but I do know that he was in there building a fortress with toilet paper.  It's what he does - I don't know, I tend to think it's creative and not destructive. I think my mistake was loading up the shelf with fresh new rolls (I did that at 7am).  It was all just too exciting for him. And so even though this was the first day in history that both children slept until 8am allowing me to deep clean the bathroom (again at 7am) I was right back at it at 11am. A few years ago I heard the phrase "self-care".  In fact, it was a doctor who looked me square in the face and asked me "what do you do for self-care?" I had (no joke) NEVER heard this phrase before.  NEVER.  It must have shown on my face, but she didn't even flinch and went on to ask what I did for myself.  Like without guilt to take care of myself.  I thought for a minute and listed off things like sleeping in once a week, morning showers, taking the long way home from work while listening to murder podcasts (the usual??) These apparently are not things that count as self-care.  (I mean I guess they are a little bit, but she wanted to examples of what I was doing to better my self-worth and happiness).  Even now that school started, I can't think of much -- actually,  sometimes I leave work early and eat my yogurt in my car and listen to my murder podcast for an extra 15 minutes.
